New Delhi [India], September 8 (ANI): South East DSP Vineet Kumar on Tuesday said that the investigating authorities in Delhi are prioritising evidence collection to deliver swift justice following the murder of 54-year-old Manipuri music teacher Chongtham Vikram Singh in Kilokari Village, Ashram.
Speaking at a press conference, Kumar said that the incident began on Sunday evening following a dispute over noise and nuisance outside the victim's residence. The victim, identified as C Vikram Singh, succumbed to his injuries at 7 AM on Monday.
"Yesterday at 7.30 pm, we received a PCR call regarding a fight. We came to know that a victim named C. Vikram Singh, who is 54 years old and lives in Kilokiri,  was beaten up by some locals and was taken to a hospital. His son, Aif Abad Ara, was taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, he died during the treatment at around 7 AM," he said.
Detailing the timeline of the incident, DSP Singh said that the assault took place between 11:30 PM and 12 AM on the intervening night of September 6 and 7.
"Seeing the seriousness of this incident, our police team started working on it.  We came to know that some people had gathered in the victim's lane and had a fight with him on the intervening night of September 6 and 7, between 11:30 PM and 12 AM. During the fight, some people beat him up and then left. His family members took him to the hospital," he said.
According to the official, 8 individuals have been identified in this incident, including 7 adults and 1 minor accused. All the suspects have been arrested.
DSP Singh noted the suspects work as either delivery boys or workers.
He said that the police teams are gathering evidence, reviewing the CCTV footage, and statements to complete the investigation at the earliest.
"We have arrested 7 major people and 1 minor who has been apprehended. We are collecting all the eyewitnesses (statements), CCTV footage, and other clues. We are trying to do the investigation as soon as possible and give justice swiftly. The investigation is ongoing.  We are collecting all the statements, and we will complete the investigation very soon. All the accused work in the local establishment. The accused either work as a delivery boy or as a worker. ," he added.
Speaking on the deceased, Singh said that he, who hailed from Manipur, had been working as a private music teacher for the past few years here in the national capital.
"The deceased, as far as we know, is from Manipur. He used to work here as a retired music teacher. He used to work in a band in Manipur. He used to give private tuitions here as a guitar teacher. He has been working here for the past few years," he said.
According to police, Vikram Singh had objected to alleged shouting and nuisance by delivery boys and dhaba staff opposite his house. When he came downstairs to object, he was allegedly attacked with fists and blows.
Eyewitnesses and members of the North-East community have demanded swift justice.
Neroda Devi, who said she has been living in the building for eight years, described Vikram as a “very good person” and a musician who did not pick unnecessary fights with anyone. (ANI)
