Haveri (Karnataka) [India], November 4 (ANI): Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, alleging that its leaders were frustrated by continuous electoral defeats and claiming that the party had turned into an "immoral and wicked syndicate".
Addressing a BJP-organised "Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy" (Praja Prabhuthva Ulisi, Arajakate Alisi) padayatra in Haveri, Bommai said that everyone must unite to strengthen democracy against those allegedly attempting to create anarchy in the country.
"Due to its frustrated mindset, the Congress party has failed to remain a proper national party today, morphing instead into an immoral and wicked syndicate," he said.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bommai said that abusing the Prime Minister had become a regular activity for Congress leaders.
"While claiming to save democracy, abusing Prime Minister Modi daily has become a full-time occupation for Congress leaders. If they don't abuse him, what they have eaten does not digest for them. Modi ji is very magnanimous and simply says, 'Abuse me however you want.' The more you abuse him, the taller he grows," he said.
Referring to the Emergency, Bommai alleged that the Congress party had undermined democratic institutions and misused the Constitution for its political interests.
"Today, the only place where true democracy remains alive in the world is India. The Congress party and Rahul Gandhi are continuously making attempts to instigate anarchy in the country, and our padayatra is against that," he said.
He further alleged that Congress leaders were attempting to create unrest over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the issue of alleged vote theft.
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Bommai said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership is one of unwavering patriotism. He has dedicated his life to the nation. Having overcome many challenges to become Prime Minister three times, he will become Prime Minister for a fourth time in 2029."
He also alleged that Congress was funded by American financier George Soros and claimed that its leaders acted according to his directions.
"To strengthen democracy and to counter the anarchist and frustrated mindset of the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi, everyone must come together. Every step you take is against anarchy. Every step you take is against the 'intellectual theft' (Buddhi Chori) of Rahul Gandhi. Your steps are meant to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to build a developed India (Viksit Bharat) and an Atmanirbhar India," he said.
Further targeting Rahul Gandhi over his allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bommai said, "Rahul Gandhi is making allegations against PM Narendra Modi, who is the number one patriot of this country. His integrity is well known to the people of India. He has dedicated his entire life to the service of the nation. Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, travels abroad every three months and meets people like George Soros, who are funding his agitations. To cover up his actions, he is trying to make allegations against Narendra Modi."
Bommai's remarks come after Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi renewed his challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an open debate over allegations concerning foreign connections.
On Tuesday, Gandhi launched a poll on social media platform X, asking young Indians whether they wanted to see the two leaders engage in a face-to-face discussion. He also tagged senior BJP leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, urging them to convince the Prime Minister to accept his challenge.
Earlier, Gandhi had challenged PM Modi to an open debate on allegations relating to foreign influence, India's financial system and other issues, even suggesting that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat could act as the moderator. The Congress leader had also alleged that the Prime Minister had become and remained in office with foreign assistance. (ANI)
