Delhi Assembly complex to house modern museum showcasing legislative heritage: Speaker Vijender Gupta

New Delhi [India], September 1 (ANI): A modern state-of-the-art museum will soon be established within the Delhi Legislative Assembly complex to showcase the capital's legislative history, constitutional legacy and architectural heritage, Speaker Vijender Gupta said on Tuesday.
Gupta made the announcement while addressing students from Delhi University under the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat's Youth Outreach Initiative.
"A modern state-of-the-art museum will soon be created within the Delhi Legislative Assembly complex, offering the citizens of Delhi an opportunity to explore the rich history, constitutional legacy, and architectural heritage of this historic landmark," Gupta said.
He said the initiative aims to transform the historic Assembly complex into an educational destination where citizens, particularly young people and scholars, can engage with the legislative history of the national capital.
The proposed museum will feature rare historical artefacts, archival documents and interactive exhibits tracing the evolution of local governance.
The project will involve converting parts of the historic site, dating back to 1912, into a curated public space that provides visitors with a closer understanding of important milestones in India's legislative and democratic journey.
Gupta said the museum would serve as an experiential learning hub for the youth and provide them with an opportunity to understand the functioning and evolution of democratic institutions.
The Speaker emphasised the importance of giving citizens greater access to the historic seat of local democracy.
He said the initiative would help foster a stronger sense of civic ownership among citizens and deepen public appreciation of India's democratic traditions.
Students from several Delhi University colleges participated in the interaction at the Delhi Legislative Assembly House.
The participating institutions included Bhagini Nivedita College, Shivaji College, Rajdhani College, Shyama Prasad Mukherji College, PGDAV College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and Hansraj College.
The Secretariat said the initiative forms part of its efforts to strengthen engagement between the Assembly and the younger generation.
The proposed museum is also being positioned as a heritage preservation initiative for the national capital, with the Assembly complex envisioned as a living cultural centre connecting historical milestones with contemporary governance.
The project is expected to provide citizens and visitors with an opportunity to explore the legislative heritage of Delhi while gaining a deeper understanding of the evolution of democratic governance in the country. (ANI)
