New Delhi [India], August 27 (ANI): India participated in the Russian-Indian Roundtable Meeting on Snow Leopard Study and Conservation, held on Wednesday at the AN Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, Russia.
The meeting was organised within the framework of the Partnership Agreement between the Interregional Association 'Irbis' and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), which was signed in December 2025. The agreement aims to strengthen international cooperation in snow leopard research and conservation.
During the meeting, the delegation from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) highlighted the country's progress in the field of snow leopard conservation through evolving science-based initiatives.
Officials from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) presented developments in snow leopard population estimation, radio telemetry and genetic analysis. They underlined the increasing importance of scientific tools and advanced techniques in enhancing conservation strategies and ensuring better monitoring of the species.
The Roundtable brought together representatives from various organisations, including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the AN Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow Zoo, and Rosprirodnadzor, along with leading experts engaged in snow leopard research and conservation.
The Indian delegation actively participated in the Roundtable discussions and thematic sessions, which focused on promoting collaborative approaches for the conservation and scientific study of snow leopards.
The discussions provided an important platform for India and international partners to exchange knowledge, share experiences and explore opportunities for greater cooperation in areas related to snow leopard research, population monitoring and conservation efforts.
The meeting further strengthened the commitment of participating countries and organisations towards protecting the snow leopard, a species that requires coordinated global efforts for its long-term conservation. (ANI)
