Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 7 (ANI): Congress MLA T Ram Mohan Reddy on Monday slammed the BRS and BJP over their protests outside the Telangana Assembly, saying that instead of raising issues through discussion inside the House, the opposition parties were "staging a spectacle" outside.
Speaking to ANI, Reddy defended the Congress-led Telangana government and highlighted several welfare and development initiatives of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
"Our Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, is building and providing homes for the poor. Work on 6,000 houses is currently underway in every constituency, and another 6,000 are set to be built. Free electricity is being provided to every household," Reddy said.
He also said the government was implementing schemes aimed at supporting women and farmers.
"The government is implementing schemes to benefit women, distributing sarees and providing low-interest loans to help them sustain themselves. We have waived farm loans of up to ₹2 lakhs for farmers," he said.
Reacting to the BRS protest, Reddy alleged that party members were provoking police personnel by wearing black T-shirts and creating a confrontation outside the Assembly.
"BRS members are creating a ruckus outside, wearing black T-shirts and provoking the police, in an attempt to turn the ensuing scuffle into a separate issue," he said.
He also referred to the BJP's raising of the '22A' issue inside the Assembly, saying the government was ready to discuss it.
"Inside the House, the BJP is raising the issue of '22A'. We are ready to discuss it; instead of raising the matter properly in the Assembly, they are staging sit-ins and creating a spectacle," Reddy said.
He asserted that the government was prepared to explain its financial decisions and utilisation of funds.
"We are prepared to account for every rupee, how the loans were raised and where the funds were utilised," he said.
Congress MLA Ramchandra Naik also criticised the BRS, alleging that the party had failed to deliver on welfare and development during its decade in power.
"During their ten years in power, the BRS administration achieved nothing, neither in terms of welfare nor development; they simply squandered public funds," Naik said.
He urged opposition leaders to bring specific issues before the Assembly instead of protesting outside.
"We urge them to come forward with specific issues, make their demands, and engage in discussion so that the public can actually benefit," he said.
Congress MLA G Madhusudan Reddy accused the BRS of unruly conduct and alleged that the BRS and BJP were colluding against the government.
"BRS people's behaviour is nothing but unruly behaviour. They completely violated the procedure. They wanted to create some nuisance. Therefore, they are doing all these things," he said.
His remarks came after BJP and BRS leaders staged separate protests outside the Assembly on Monday.
Telangana BJP president Ramchander Rao was detained during a protest demanding the release of pending tuition fee reimbursements and scholarship dues. He alleged that the government had to pay Rs 40 lakh to students.
Meanwhile, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao, former minister T Harish Rao and other BRS MLAs were detained after being stopped from entering the Assembly wearing black T-shirts as a mark of protest against the Congress government's 1,000 days in office.
The BRS leaders have accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its electoral guarantees, while the BJP has focused on pending student fee reimbursements. (ANI)
