New Delhi [India], September 7 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday questioned the delay in prorogation of Parliament, alleging that the government has kept the 2026 Monsoon Session "on a ventilator" while seeking a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha to pass the Delimitation Bills.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on July 20, was adjourned sine die on August 13, after 19 sittings.
Congress leader said Parliament is normally prorogued three to four days after being adjourned sine die, but noted that the gap was 28 days during the 2015 Monsoon Session.
In a post on X, the Congress MP wrote, “Today is exactly 25 days since Parliament was adjourned sine die. But it has still NOT been prorogued. Normally prorogation takes place 3-4 days after adjournment sine die. But the gap for the Monsoon Session in 2015 was 28 days. That session had been washed out almost entirely over the Lalit Modi issue, but the Modi Govt kept the session alive, hoping to bulldoze the GST Bills through.”

“It needed a two-thirds majority in the Rajya Sabha, which it did not have. As it turned out, the Modi Govt was forced to consult more meaningfully with the Opposition and pass the Bills much later. The 2026 Monsoon Session has been kept on ventilator because the Home Minister is still scrambling around for his super-tainted two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha to get the Delimitation Bills passed. How much longer before he accepts the reality that his politics of threats and intimidation has reached its limit?” the post read.
During the session, 12 Bills were passed, but only the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, was actually debated in the House.
The remaining Bills were passed without discussion amid repeated Opposition protests over the NEET paper leak, an alleged "theft" of Ram Temple donations, and the police crackdown on student protesters on July 20.
During the session, 11 Bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha and two in the Rajya Sabha, while 12 Bills were passed by both Houses.
The six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs switching to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and 20 TMC rebel MPs announcing a merger with NCPI had reignited speculations of the government reintroducing the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill and the Delimitation Bill, which fell in the Lok Sabha on April 17 after failing to gain a two-thirds majority.
