Tadepalli (Andhra Pradesh) [India], August 26 (ANI): YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday raised questions over the law and order situation in the State, flagging a case of two police personnel allegedly found intoxicated and involved in a road accident.
Speaking to reporters in Tadepalli, Jagan Reddy alleged that the Andhra Pradesh Police attempted to save its officers; however, the statements given by officials contradict each other. Highlighting the case, he alleged a "mafia situation" in the State with the police, politicians and criminals working together.
He said, "Law and order situation in Andhra. First time in the history of the country, you have never seen the situation in the country with respect to the cops. Two of the SIs were intoxicated and were found in the car. The driver was also high, and the car met with an accident. The villagers surrounded the car and videotaped the backseat and dickey, where ganja and liquor were found. You have a mafia situation. Cops, political bigwigs and criminals are working together as a mafia and doing this business, including drugs."
Reddy demanded the arrest of the police officials involved in the case, instead of a disciplinary action.
The YSRCP chief said, "If you were neutral and someone was caught like this, you would book these SIs, put them behind bars and make an example of this. The DSP came with a defence that the cops were going in the car, and they spotted someone suspicious. That person had ganja, and they were chasing him. The SP said that the cops were sent with prior information to conduct a raid. However, the SIs, in their statement in the FIR, state that one of their sons had a stomach ache and the other accompanied him for the treatment."
"Look at the contradiction in each of the statements. The DSP and the SP speak like the SIs were James Bond, 007. On the other hand, you are initiating disciplinary action. Rather than putting these people behind bars, the action you are taking is for namesake," he added.
Earlier today, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a press conference where he targeted the Chandrababu Naidu-led government over alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment process and the drought situation in the State. (ANI)
