MP: Two murder accused arrested following brief encounter in Gwalior

Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 1 (ANI): Gwalior Police arrested two accused, allegedly involved in the murder of a man in the district following a brief exchange of fire during an operation on Tuesday, an official said.
The action was carried out jointly by the Bahodapur and Purani Chhawani police stations near Shankarpur Stadium in the district. The encounter followed the murder of one Vivek Meena (30), who was allegedly shot dead in the Bahodapur area a few days ago.
Police had been making continuous efforts to apprehend the three accused in the case. Two accused, identified as Saurabh Yadav (21), who sustained a gunshot injury to his leg, and Rahu Yadav (23), were arrested, while one accused fled from the spot.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP, Gwalior), Sujawal Jagga, told ANI, "Last week, a youth was shot dead in the Anand Nagar area under Bahodapur police station, in which three accused were involved. Police had been continuously making efforts to arrest them. In this connection, Bahodapur police received information from an informer yesterday that the accused were likely to move from Tighra towards Purani Chhawani at around 2 am. Two ambush teams were planned and deployed."
When the accused moved through the area, police tried to stop them. But the accused hurled abuse at the police and opened fire with the intention of killing them, the officer said.
"In self-defence, the police also opened fire, during which one accused, Saurabh, sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was immediately taken to the trauma centre of JAH Hospital. The other accused, Rahul Yadav, fell at the spot and was arrested. One 315-bore weapon each was recovered from the possession of both accused. The empty cartridges of the rounds fired by them were also recovered by the police," he added.
ASP Jagga further said that the third person who was with the accused fled from the spot on a motorcycle. When the arrested accused were asked who the third person was, they identified him as Lala Agrawal.
"There were three accused. Two have been arrested and one remains absconding. The third person who was with them fled on a motorcycle. When the injured accused were asked who the third person was, they identified him as Lala Agrawal," the officer said.
On the motive behind the murder, Jagga said the exact circumstances would be established after detailed interrogation.
"The accused will be questioned in detail. Nonetheless, what has emerged so far is that there was a minor altercation while they were buying momos, following which they committed this act," he said. (ANI)
