PM Modi convening "Chinta Baithak" not Chintan Baithak, says Jairam Ramesh; questions delay in proroguing Parliament

New Delhi [India], September 17 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the reported two-day ‘Chintan Baithak’ of Cabinet ministers scheduled for next week, calling it more of a “Chinta Baithak” amid what he described as mounting questioning and criticism of the government.
In a post on X, Ramesh said, “It is being reported that the PM has convened a Chintan Baithak of all Union Ministers on Sept 23 and 24. Actually, this is more a Chinta Baithak given the fact that he has become the fully deserved target of all-round questioning and criticism at a level and with an intensity never witnessed before.”
Ramesh also questioned the delay in formally proroguing the Monsoon Session of Parliament, saying that 35 days had elapsed since the session ended.

“Meanwhile, an unprecedented 35 days have elapsed, and the Monsoon Session of Parliament has still not been prorogued,” he said.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on July 20 and concluded on August 13. It adjourned sine die on August 13 after 19 sittings spread over 25 days. Prorogation means the termination of a Session of the House by an order made by the President under Article 85(2)(a) of the Constitution.
The Congress leader also targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that he continued his search for a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha while referring to the defeat of a Constitution amendment Bill in the Lower House on April 17, 2026.
“The Union Home Minister continues his search for that elusive but wholly super-tainted two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha to avenge the extreme humiliation inflicted on him and the Modi Govt on April 17, 2026 in the Lok Sabha by the solidarity of the Opposition,” Ramesh said.
The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, related to women's reservation and delimitation, received 298 votes in favour and 230 against in the Lok Sabha, falling short of the required two-thirds majority of 352 votes among the 528 members who participated in the voting.
Ramesh further alleged that the Opposition's solidarity had prevented the passage of what he called “diabolical Bills” and said it would continue despite what he described as attempts to “split and intimidate”.
“The Republic was saved that day from the passage of his diabolical Bills. That solidarity will survive his ongoing efforts to split and intimidate,” Ramesh said. (ANI)
