Amritsar (Punjab) [India], September 18 (ANI): Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday visited the residence of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harjit Singh in Amritsar, who was killed on patrol duty, to pay tribute to the officer.
During the visit, Yadav expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
In a post on X, the Punjab DGP said, "Today, I visited #Amritsar, paid respects at the residence of Martyr ASI Harjit Singh and stood with his bereaved family in their hour of grief. Conveyed my deepest condolences and assured them of @PunjabPoliceInd's unwavering support. His courage, dedication and supreme sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered with pride and honour."

Yadav noted that he chaired a high-level review meeting in Amritsar with senior police officers, including the Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar and the Inspector General (IG) Border Range.
"Held an operational preparedness meeting with senior officers, including CP Amritsar and IG Border Range, and also reviewed the investigations being conducted. Directed officers to maintain heightened vigilance through strengthened patrolling, enhanced surveillance, preventive policing," he said.
Further, he emphasised that justice will be served to ASI Harjit Singh, adding that the Punjab Police stands firmly with the family.
"#PunjabPolice stands firmly with the family of our martyr. The sacrifice of ASI Harjit Singh will never be forgotten. The accused will be brought to justice. #ForceIsFamily," the post read.
The visit comes after ASI Singh, on patrol duty, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Hakima police station area of Amritsar.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore for Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harjit Singh's bereaved family.
The ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore will be given by the government to the fallen officer's family along with an additional insurance payout of Rs 1 crore. (ANI)
