Rabada suffers hamstring injury ahead of South Africa's busy home season

Rabada suffers hamstring injury ahead of South Africa's busy home season

Cape Town [South Africa], August 21 (ANI): South Africa pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada has suffered a right hamstring injury during winter training, disrupting his preparation ahead of a crucial international season, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said on Friday, according to Cricinfo.
CSA said Rabada will undergo further assessments to determine the extent of the injury and its possible impact on his availability for the upcoming season.
South Africa's international campaign begins next week with a tour of Namibia for a T20I tri-series involving Zimbabwe, followed by three ODIs. Rabada, along with several frontline bowlers and captains Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram, was not included in the squad as part of workload management.
The pacer is expected to play a key role in South Africa's home season, which begins in September with an ODI series against Australia, followed by three Tests. The Proteas will also face Bangladesh and England in red-ball assignments between November and January, according to Cricinfo.
Rabada's latest injury comes after he missed South Africa's Test series against India in late 2025 due to a rib concern. He last played a Test match in Rawalpindi in October 2025 during South Africa's drawn series against Pakistan.
Meanwhile, South Africa A have suffered a setback with all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy ruled out of the first unofficial Test against Bangladesh A due to a lower back spasm. Muthusamy was part of South Africa's Test squad in 2025 and remains a potential key player as the team looks to defend its World Test Championship title. (ANI)
