Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], November 2 (ANI): Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Murasu’ is expected to make landfall along the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur during the intervening night of November 2 and 3, bringing winds of 100–110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone was centred over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal at 2:30 pm on Monday, around 100 km east of Nellore, and is likely to move northwestwards before crossing the coast near midnight.
The cyclone was located about 100 km east of Nellore (Andhra Pradesh), 120 km southeast of Kavali (Andhra Pradesh), 160 km north-northeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 160 km southeast of Ongole (Andhra Pradesh) and 210 km south of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), as stated by the Andhra Pradesh Meteorological Department.
It is very likely to move northwestwards and cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast as a Severe Cyclonic Storm, with a wind speed of 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph, between Nellore and Narsapur, to the south of Ongole, during midnight (2330 hours IST) on Monday, November 2, and early hours (0400 hours IST) on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, according to the regional IMD report.
The Severe Cyclonic Storm “Murasu” is under the continuous surveillance of Doppler Weather Radars at Chennai, Machilipatnam and Visakhapatnam.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu conducted a review meeting on Murusu cyclone preparedness with senior officials and district collectors from the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) Centre at the Secretariat today and directed the administration to remain fully alert as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the South Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema districts.
He stated that the impact of Cyclone Murusu on the Andhra Pradesh coast is likely to be relatively limited. Forecasts indicate that wind speeds and rainfall intensity are also expected to be lower compared to Cyclone Arnab.
According to the release, the Chief Minister instructed officials to make effective use of the rainfall from the cyclone to fill tanks and reservoirs through efficient water management. He stressed the need for robust measures to prevent any loss of life or property. (ANI)
