Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 18: For many, Bollywood songs are more than just music. They are memories, of a particular time, a person, a feeling or a moment in life. That sense of nostalgia came alive at Rang-E-Bollywood, where singer Prajakta Satardekar took audiences on a musical journey through some of Hindi cinema's most beloved melodies at the ISKCON Auditorium, Juhu, on August 15.
Spanning generations of Bollywood music, the evening featured a curated mix of popular classics, unplugged renditions and songs that paid tribute to some of the most iconic voices in Indian cinema.
Among the singers who hold a special place in Prajakta's musical journey are Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Speaking about their enduring influence, Prajakta shared how their music, artistry and dedication continue to inspire singers even today. For her, performing their songs is not merely a tribute but also a way of keeping their musical legacy alive and introducing younger audiences to the beauty of these compositions.
A great deal of thought went into putting the evening together. Each song was carefully selected and arranged to allow the performance to flow seamlessly between different moods, eras and styles. Rather than simply recreating the original versions, Prajakta brought her own interpretation to each song while preserving the essence that has made these songs timeless.
The evening also offered a glimpse into Prajakta's personal musical journey. She acknowledged the unwavering support of her parents and fondly remembered her guru, Shri Suresh Rao, who has trained her since childhood. She credited their constant encouragement and guidance for playing a significant role in her growth as a singer. She also expressed her gratitude to Sandeep Parikh for organising the event and his continued efforts towards supporting and promoting her.
The repertoire included tributes to Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Suman Kalyanpur, alongside several songs that have continued to resonate with audiences across generations.
The concert concluded with "Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon," an especially poignant choice for August 15. The iconic patriotic melody brought the evening to a reflective close, reminding audiences of how deeply certain melodies become woven into the fabric of our collective memories.
