SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to join INDIA-bloc Delhi rally against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, SIR

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 30 (ANI): Samajwadi Party has extended support to the upcoming INDIA-bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, with party workers set to join the upcoming mega-rally against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in large numbers, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Addressing a press conference here in Lucknow, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said on Friday, “We will all participate in the rally against Gyanesh Kumar”.
The SP chief also praised the recent win of his party’s candidates in the concluded MLC elections, claiming that the results show a “rejection of BJP’s communal politics.”
"The BJP has lost this election—a defeat for those who claimed to be "visionaries." We have made promises regarding teachers, and all of these will be included in our manifesto (for upcoming Assembly elections)." he said.
Multiple parties have extended support for the planned November 1 rally, including parties from the southern states. Multiple Chief Ministers and Congress leaders from various states are also expected to participate. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also left from Ranchi to Delhi earlier today, where he is expected to join the INDIA-bloc rally.
Senior Congress leaders and legislators from Chhattisgarh confirmed their participation in the INDIA bloc’s upcoming 'Chalo Dilli Ramlila March' scheduled for November 1, at New Delhi's Ramlila Maidan.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thirumavalavan also extended support to the INDIA bloc November 1 mega-rally. The VCK chief has said that party workers from atleast 5 southern states are participating in the November 1 rally in Delhi. The rally at Ramlila Maidan is expected to have atleast 10 lakh people attend at the newly designated protest site.
However, the Chalo Dilli Ramlila march has also brought in apprehensions from traders body, with the Chamber of Trade and Industry claiming severe economic fallout during the peak festive shopping period, the premier traders' body warned that bringing an estimated 10 lakh (1 million) people and 15,000 to 20,000 vehicles into Central Delhi would spark a severe traffic paralysis across 20 historic markets.
However, the proposed mock public impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has been postponed due to rain.
Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Rahul Gandhi said the decision was taken by consensus, keeping in mind the discomfort senior leaders could face while sitting in the rain.
Ahead of the event, INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, party leader Pawan Khera, General Secretary KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh, had started arriving at Kharge's residence for a meeting. (ANI)
