TIPRA Motha secures 1,148 village committee seats unopposed in Tripura, gains early advantage in VC elections

Agartala (Tripura) [India], September 10 (ANI): The TIPRA Motha Party has secured 1,148 seats unopposed in the ongoing Village Committee (VC) Election 2026 in Tripura, according to the latest figures.
The party has won the seats without facing any contest, accounting for around 25 per cent of the total 4,597 Village Committee seats in the election.
The development gives TIPRA Motha a significant early advantage as the electoral process for the Village Committees continues across the state.
The remaining seats are being contested through the ongoing election process, with results expected after the completion of polling and counting.
The Village Committee elections are being closely watched in Tripura due to their importance in local-level governance and their wider political implications in the state.
The final outcome of the elections will indicate the performance of TIPRA Motha and other political parties in the local body polls.
Further details on the final results and the performance of other parties are expected as the election process progresses.
Earlier today, speaking with ANI, State Election Commissioner PK Chakraborty said that a total of 10,958 nomination papers were submitted for the upcoming Village Council elections in Tripura, with 10,936 candidates set to contest the polls.
The process of filing nominations concluded on September 8. According to the State Election Commission, the number of candidates participating in the electoral contest stands at 10,936 after completion of the nomination process.
Chakravarty also said the State Election Commission has taken steps regarding the allegations raised by opposition parties concerning the nomination-filing process.
Security arrangements for the elections have also been strengthened. The State Election Commission had sought Central forces from the state government for the conduct of the polls.
Acting on the Commission's request, the state government approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for additional security deployment.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs has subsequently approved 74 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for election-related security duties," Chakravarty said.
The deployment of Central forces is expected to bolster security arrangements across polling areas and help ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Village Council elections. (ANI)
