U'khand CM Dhami meets family of Army soldier Amit Kumar Anathwal; assures unwavering support to bravehearts' kin

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], August 14 (ANI): On the eve of India's 80th Independence Day, as part of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's initiative to honour the families of soldiers who laid down their lives in service of the nation and interact with them personally, he visited the residence of late Army soldier Amit Kumar Anathwal Dehradun
The Chief Minister met with the family members of the deceased soldier at the latter's residence in Bhaowala and enquired about the well-being of Amit Kumar Anathwal's father, Nagendra Prasad Anathwal, and other family members. The Chief Minister paid his heartfelt tribute to the brave soldier and honoured his family.
Dhami said that Independence Day is not merely an occasion for celebration but also a sacred day to remember the supreme sacrifices of the brave sons of the nation who gave everything for the defence of the country. He said the state government holds the families of army soldiers in the highest regard and will always stand by them. He added that honouring soldier families is a matter of honour for the entire society and nation.
A native of village Kwala in Kaljikhal block of Pauri Garhwal district, Amit Kumar Anathwal made the supreme sacrifice while defending the nation. He joined the Garhwal Rifles on December 9, 2011, and later served with the 4 Para Special Forces. He was posted in the Kupwara area of Jammu and Kashmir.
In April 2020, during an encounter with terrorists in the Keran Sector, Amit Kumar Anathwal displayed exceptional courage and, along with his fellow soldiers, eliminated five terrorists. During the operation, five brave soldiers, including Amit Kumar Anathwal, made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the motherland.
In recognition of his exceptional bravery and valour, the nation posthumously conferred the Sena Medal on Amit Kumar Anathwal.
Dhami said that Uttarakhand, known as the land of valour, has given many brave soldiers to the nation, and the name of Amit Kumar Anathwal will always be remembered with pride and honour among these immortal heroes. He said the state government will continue its efforts to ensure that his sacrifice and valour are remembered by future generations and will remain committed to the honour and welfare of the families of soldiers.
