Uttarakhand: Dehradun Police register FIR in alleged molestation of Class 11 student by teacher

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], October 24 (ANI): Dehradun Police are registering an FIR in connection with the alleged molestation of a Class 11 student by a teacher at a school, following a written complaint submitted by the student and her mother, SP City Shekhar Suyal said on Friday.
Speaking exclusively to ANI, SP City Suyal said the police had been in contact with the victim and her family since the incident came to their notice and had involved the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to conduct an inquiry in accordance with established legal procedures.
“The incident that has been unfolding since yesterday is within the police's cognisance. Since yesterday, we have been in proper communication with the victim and her family. We also involved our CWC (Child Welfare Committee) wing as required by the established legal procedure to conduct an inquiry. Today, the victim and her mother visited the police station and submitted a formal written complaint. Based on this complaint, we are registering an FIR and initiating the necessary legal steps,” SP City Suyal said.
When asked about the action taken so far, the SP City said the CWC had spoken with the victim in accordance with the mandated protocol and legal requirements, following which the process of registering an FIR had commenced.
“As I mentioned, the CWC, following the mandated protocol and legal requirements, has spoken with the victim. Following that interaction, we have commenced the process of registering an FIR. Further proceedings will be carried out based on the evidence collected and other relevant factors,” he said.
The case involving the alleged molestation of the Class 11 student at Dehradun's School escalated on Friday after the student's mother accused the school's physics teacher of harassing and inappropriately touching her daughter over the past one-and-a-half months, an official added.
Police said further proceedings would be carried out based on the evidence collected and other relevant factors.
Further investigation is still underway. (ANI)
