MP CM Mohan Yadav reviews situation in Rewa, Shahdol and Jabalpur after heavy rains; assures compensation for losses

Rewa (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 24 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday reviewed the rain situation in the Rewa, Shahdol, and Jabalpur divisions, assuring that the state government will provide full compensation to those who have suffered losses due to the recent spell of heavy rainfall.
Speaking to the reporters, CM Yadav praised the administrative machinery for its prompt response in managing the crisis.
"I came here today to review the situation caused by the rains in our Rewa, Shahdol and Jabalpur divisions. The information I have received indicates that during this period of heavy rain, our administration worked with great promptness, and relief camps were successfully operated in many places," the Chief Minister said.
Observing the current status of the weather, he stated that the situation is returning to normalcy as the rain has subsided over the last 48 hours.
"As of today, the rain has stopped for the last two days, so to a large extent, people have left the relief camps and returned to their respective homes. However, for those whose houses have collapsed, or who have suffered loss of life, loss of livestock, or any other damage, the compensation fixed by the government will be provided by us with full compassion," CM Yadav stated.
Chief Minister also issued a warning for the upcoming weather cycle, urging officials and citizens to remain vigilant.
"This is a natural challenge in a way. For the upcoming cycle from August 24th to 27th, we have given instructions for precautions in those districts where heavy rain is likely. We hope that this entire part of eastern Madhya Pradesh emerges safely from these challenges," he added.
Chief Minister highlighted a 20 per cent rain deficit across the state and advised a shift in agricultural strategy.
"The way we all felt after El Nino today, it is a challenging time. On average, it is believed that our rainfall was 20% less across Madhya Pradesh. Therefore, for the post-rain crop cycle, I have asked the agriculture department to manage and encourage the planting of crops that require less water. I hope our farmer brothers understand this. Together, we will properly manage this crop cycle and the next, based on the current weather patterns," the CM said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday reported that Gohparu in the Shahdol district of East Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest rainfall of 8 cm in the last 24 hours.
According to the weather department, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over West Madhya Pradesh on August 23 and again between August 27 and 29.
The IMD further predicted similar weather patterns for East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on August 29. (ANI)
